Enea OSE Systems Partners with ANT Limited and Swell Software to Deliver Graphical Support for Wireless Devices
Enea OSE Systems announced today at the Embedded Systems Conference the availability of a complete graphical environment for wireless devices, created through a partnership with ANT Limited and Swell Software. Customers developing next-generation wireless communication products with demands for graphical end-user applications now have the ability to design and customize their embedded applications and user interfaces with a solution from Enea OSE Systems, ANT Limited, and Swell Software.
With its partners, Enea OSE Systems now offers a wide range of graphical end-user application solutions. At the foundation of the offering lies the OSE Graphics Library, enabling customers to develop graphical end-user applications and suited for applications needing tailored graphics support. Features include basic drawing primitives, bitmap font support, drawing/stretching images, run-time conversion between images from device-independent and device-dependent formats, clipping and optional support for virtual screen orientations.
The OSE integration with ANT Limited's FrescoTM browser and SimplEmail™ email client offers highly functional browser and email applications specifically suited for Wireless terminals, set-top boxes and other Internet devices. The ANT Fresco Browser is platform independent and standards compliant, allowing users of wireless and other devices to securely view and interact with Web content created using industry standards. ANT Fresco Browser has a small memory footprint and is customizable, enabling customers to quickly and easily design a branded interface for their Internet appliances.
The OSE and PEG (Portable Embedded GUI) integration from Swell Software enables customers to write advanced applications with window capabilities and a customized look and feel. The PEG library and development tool set is designed specifically for embedded systems. PEG's small footprint, high performance and event-driven programming model make it perfect for today's multi-threaded embedded communications applications using LCD and video displays and controllers. PEG is a WindowsTM System including a GUI Toolkit for embedded systems. It includes WindowBuilderTM – automatic generation of source code for PEG Windows and dialogs, ImageConvertTM – converting and ROM:ing bitmap images and FontCaptureTM – generation of proprietary fonts.
The OSETM RTOS enables customers to design a distributed system with fault tolerant capabilities, true realtime behavior and high performance. The unique message-passing architecture is the solid base that makes this possible. In combination with OSE's networking solution, OSE's new graphical offerings create the perfect platform for Wireless devices.
"By integrating our browser and email technology with OSE, Enea OSE Systems can offer its customers instant access to a Web browser and email application, enabling them to develop and ship their wireless devices with lower engineering costs and a time-to-market advantage," said Neil Gardner, technical product marketing manager, ANT Limited.
"Today's embedded system product cycles demand that designers incorporate packaged hardware/software solutions for complex subsystems such as a graphical user interface," explained Michael Tyburski, director of sales, Swell Software. "For the embedded system designer, Enea OSE Systems' OSE RTOS now offers an easy-to-use GUI solution running at peak performance levels."
The OSE integration with ANT and Swell products is in keeping with Enea OSE Systems' commitment to support a vast range of communications applications that depend on reliability and performance. "This technology, in combination with the OSE RTOS, means that we now can offer a platform for Wireless devices, further enhancing the options for tomorrow's complex and versatile wireless applications," said Eva Skoglund, product marketing manager, Enea OSE Systems.
About ANT Limited
ANT Limited (www.antlimited.com) develops and markets embedded communication appliance software for use in consumer electronics, Internet appliances and eCommerce products. Core technology includes the ANT Fresco® Browser and the ANT SimplEmail email client, which employ high performance, highly portable and customisable architectures designed to meet the needs of Internet appliances and other networked products. ANT's technology gives original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of Internet devices, and the technology partners that supply them, three significant advantages: far greater speed to market, reduced engineering costs, and freedom to leverage corporate identity. The company's current customers include: Analog Devices, Amino Communications, Pace Micro Technology, Sagem, Symbian and ZapMedia. Partners include: Bitstream, Enea, IBM Microelectronics, STMicroelectronics, Tality and Wind River Systems.
About Swell Software Inc.
Swell Software's engineers have a broad range of experience working with real-time embedded systems and graphical interfaces. They found that the GUI development tools that were on the market were inadequate and expensive. It was time to build a "better mousetrap" and sell it at a reasonable price, which lead to the creation of PEG in 1997. Swell Software's customers include Intel, HP, Infineon (Siemens), Raytheon, Baxter Healthcare, Analogic, Phoenix Technologies, 3M, Franklin Electronic Publishers, eNote.com, Magellan and other leading technology companies. PEG is used in a variety of embedded applications including a handheld GPS unit, wireless TV email system, HTML browser, flight simulator, in-car positioning data recorder, audio mixer, engine control diagnostic station, patient vitals monitor and workstation BIOS.
