Details

American Arium hardware assist debug tools can be broken down into two groups - in-target probes and in-circuit emulators. The ITPs and ICEs are represented by our line of COMET products.

In-Target Probes
The functionality of our ITP tools (ECMs) includes code disassembly, single-stepping, start/stop, breakpoint setup, view and change memory/registers, download code/symbols, scripting, search/replace, and source-level debug. In addition to experience, our mastery of the ITP market is in part a result of the synergistic relationship we have with Intel Corporation, giving us privileged access to early silicon.

In-Circuit Emulators
In the early days of microprocessors, bus transactions were orderly and sequential. It was easy to capture bus activity and trigger on events using a general purpose logic analyzer. As microprocessors have evolved, however, the simple bus protocol has given way to performance-enhancing techniques involving pipelining, multilevel caching, and overlapping transactions. These enhancements have also made it more difficult to capture bus transactions and trigger on real-time bus events.

Responding to the needs of system designers and software developers, American Arium has adopted a technology that makes it possible to easily capture execution history and trigger on complex bus transactions in real-time using branch trace message (BTM) cycles to align bus to clock cycles. The industry term for the technology is state-per-transfer. American Arium is the only company to use this technology.
