Insignia Solutions Unveils Expanded Capabilities at Sun's Worldwide Java Developer Conference

August 3, 1999

<%=company1%> (Nasdaq: INSGY), will unveil important graphics features of its next release of the Jeode platform at Sun Microsystem's Worldwide Java Developer Conference (JavaOne) at San Francisco's Moscone Center, June 15 through 18. Amongst several new features, version 1.5 of the Jeode platform delivers the Abstract Windowing Toolkit (AWT), bringing graphics capabilities to embedded systems developers. Insignia will demonstrate a beta version of the new release at the conference, and expects to ship Version 1.5 for Windows CE/MIPS and Windows NT platforms in the third quarter.

Insignia Solution hosts booth number 1414.

"After successfully delivering Jeode 1.0, we are now addressing the needs of a new class of customers who require a set of Application Program Interfaces for developing graphics-oriented applications like PDAs, set top boxes, car navigation systems, and Internet appliances like web phones," said Ronald C. Workman, senior vice president of marketing for Insignia. "To date, our focus has been to provide virtual machine technologies to Java developers who require optimal performance in a limited memory footprint. The first release of the Jeode platform was designed specifically for developers of non-graphical embedded applications like printers, network equipment and storage systems. By integrating AWT into the Jeode platform, we are combining the strength of our core Virtual Machine technologies with industry standard graphics support to meet the needs of a wider range of customers. It's a natural evolution for our Jeode technology."

The Jeode platform, Insignia's implementation of Sun's EmbeddedJava specification, is uniquely designed for embedded systems and allows developers to create more reliable, efficient and predictable embedded devices that are enabled by Insignia's Embedded Virtual Machine (EVM). Insignia is the first Sun licensee to deliver its own embedded VM technology combined with Sun's Java class libraries. Insignia customers receive ready-to-use solutions that reap the full benefits of Sun's industry-standard Java specifications.

The Jeode platform is designed to run with a wide range of operating systems and target processors. The company recently announced a new version that supports VxWorks running on PowerPC. To date, the Jeode platform also supports Windows CE, Windows NT, and Linux running on MIPS, ARM, Intel x86, and Hitachi SH.
