Insignia and Next Nets Announce Selection of Jeode Platform for Windows CE-Based Devices
May 4, 1999
Next Nets introduced Cessna, the world's first Windows Mobile HyperThin Client, in January. Cessna runs Microsoft Windows applications with Windows CE at the same speed as most Windows NT servers.
"In the world of mobile terminals, users currently choose between standalone and wireless terminals, and between Windows and Java terminals," said Yukihiro Kayama, president and chief executive officer of Next Nets Corporation. "The goal of the Hyper Thin Client is to do everything mobile terminals do, just as fast as Windows NT servers do. Mobile Hyper Thin Clients run Win 32 applications on the server, and Windows CE applications on the terminal. This eliminates the need for expensive hardware and software upgrades and incompatibilities between proprietary systems.
"The Jeode platform and its Embedded Virtual Machine (EVM) will enable us to build a version of Cessna that will bring the power of Java technology to our mobile terminal architecture," Kayama continued.
"Next Net's selection proves how well-suited the Jeode platform is for building small, handheld devices such as Cessna," said Ronald Workman, senior vice president of marketing for <%=company%>. "This is the first of what we believe will be many design wins that validate the viability of the Jeode platform for Windows CE-based devices. We're delighted to help Next Nets as it moves mobile terminals into a new era."
