Description
The MTC1215 is a 16 to 1 multiplexer (MUX) operating at rates up to 12.5 Gb/s for use in SONET OC-192, SD STM-64, and proprietary system applications. The multiplexer accepts 16 differential data channels at a nominal rate of 622 Mb/s and combines them into a 10 Gb/s serial data stream suitable for transmission over high speed fiberoptic networks.
The MTC1215 accepts a 10 GHz clock from the host system and divides it into a 622 MHz clock which is used to strobe sixteen 622 Mb/s data channels into the MUX. A user controlled phase selecter is provided to align the phase of the 622 MHz clock with the incoming data for minimum bit error rate (BER). The 10 Gb/s data output is retimed with respect to the external high speed clock using an internal D flip flop (DFF).
For maximum flexibility, an internal Phase Frequency Detector (PFD) with external reference clock input is provided. The PFD can be used in combination with an external 10 GHz VCO and loop filter to synchronize the VCO output with the 622 MHz reference clock for ultra low jitter data transmission .
All data and clock I/O use Current Mode Login (CML) buffers and are provided with on-chip 50terminations to minimize external component count. The MTC1215 is provided in a 128 pin quad flat pack (QFP) and operates from a single -3.3V power supply. The circuitry was designed for use in equipment which is required to comply with Bellcore, ANSI, a d ITU-T international standards for SONET and SDH systems.
