San Francisco - At the Intel Developers Forum in San Francisco, SBS Technologies, a provider of embedded computing technology, announced its new PSL09 Processor PCI Mezzanine card (PrPMC). The PSL09 PrPMC is a high performance processor module powered by the Intel® Pentium® M processor Low Voltage at 1.4 GHz. For very low power application requirements the PSL09 is also available with an Intel® Celeron® M processor Ultra Low Voltage.

The PSL09 PrPMC is ideal for new or upgraded embedded applications that need a Windows XP graphical user interface like I/O management, data management or packet processing applications. This PrPMC supports a 33/66 MHz PCI bus and incorporates sophisticated power management technology, a VGA interface and 256 Mbytes of 333 MHz DDR SDRAM with optional ECC. The PSL09 provides embedded application designers extensive connectivity with four USB 2.0 ports, two serial ATA channels and two Fast Ethernet ports.

"The PSL09 processor PMC offers high performance computing while maintaining excellent thermal characteristics. Engineers that are designing embedded systems for demanding applications such as flight computers, software defined radio, and command, control and communications systems will appreciate the power and versatility of the PSL09," said Adrian Bernhard, Managing Director of European Operations for SBS Technologies.

The PSL09 supports Monarch and non-Monarch modes for increased flexibility. In Monarch mode, the PSL09 acts as the host on the PCI bus, controlling the carrier board to which it is attached. If the embedded application needs a processor module with higher performance it can be easily changed without a redesign of the carrier board itself. In non-Monarch mode, the PSL09 acts as a slave processor module creating, with the host processor on the carrier board, a loosely coupled multi-processing capability adding additional computing power for demanding applications.

"Intel processors combined with the Intel 855GME chipset provide an ideal high-performance platform for many communications and embedded applications," said Mark Dellis, product marketing manager, Infrastructure Processor Division, Intel Corporation. "The new SBS Technologies PSL09 PrPMC module provides a faster time-to-market solution for developers of modular, highly flexible systems."

Upon request, the PSL09 features PICMG® 2.15 compatibility with the added option of one or two Fast Ethernet links through the Pn4/Jn4 connector. This PICMG 2.15 option enables the PSL09 to operate with CompactPCI® 2.16 and AdvancedTCA - carrier boards offering embedded application developers a wide range of alternatives.

Available in a standard temperature range of 0°C to +50°C, this board is also available in an extended temperature version ranging from -40 to +55°C for demanding applications in low temperature conditions. The PSL09 supports the Linux, VxWorks and Windows XP operating systems.
