About Us

Founded in 1989 by two entrepreneurs, Lantronix's first product was a terminal server that allowed a number of serial terminals to connect to a host computer using an Ethernet network. This product was a small application-specific computer, running its own specialized real-time operating system and performing the sole task of encapsulating serial data in Ethernet frames and managing communications. The Terminal Server was based on a concept now known as "thin server" technology, due to its lack of traditional overhead or "fat" found in PCs such as file systems management, graphical user interfaces and other functions.

Since the development of our first terminal server, Lantronix has continually refined the technology of connecting devices to networks. Building on the success of our terminal servers, we introduced a complete line of print servers which allowed users to share expensive laser printers and plotters over the network.

Lantronix recently introduced its latest generation of Universal Thin Servers, Print and Terminal Servers with support for Fast Ethernet. The MSS-100 Universal Thin Server enables serial devices to communicate and be managed using TCP/IP over Fast Ethernet, often replacing dedicated PCs with a streamlined lower cost server that transfers management and control via a local network or Internet connection. Lantronix's newest print servers include two multi-port servers that are the first products of their kind to include an internal power supply, while the single port print server is championed as the world's smallest 100Mbps server.
