Scientific MicroSystems, Inc. has developed an Electronic Riser Angle (ERA) Repeater System.

Product Description

The system includes accelerometers placed on the riser and in the Lower Marine Riser Package (LMRP) electronics housing. The signals from the accelerometers are converted into a digital data stream that is then returned to the surface using ISDN modems. The digital data stream at the surface can be read by any system that uses the protocol specified by the ADAM 4017 Data Acquisition device. However, our complete package includes a surface system, which acts as a repeater.

The surface system will run on any computer system that runs Unix, HPUX, VxWorks, Linux, NT and Win 95/98. These systems must be able to support a National Instruments ATAO board. The data is then passed on as a 4-20ma or 0-10V signal. The surface software also allows for alarming. Limits can be set and an output provides for an external enunciator.

An advanced version of the surface system also provides for calculation and display of Stack Angle, Riser (Flex Joint) Angle, and Surface Riser Angle. These are displayed on a polar plot and indicate the relative position of the vessel from the stack.

Applications

  • Input for Automatic Station Keeping System (ASK)
  • Low Coat Independent ERA system
