SMI -MIO Board
By Trevor Pugh and Bernard Conner Scientific MicroSystems, Inc and Accutru International Inc
The Challenge: To accurately measure and verify temperature and produce drift free measurements using new contact sensor technology and report the verified status of the sensor.
The Solution: An embedded processor board was built which provided the specific services required for a Self-Verifying Sensor (SVS). Patents 5,713,668 and 5,887,978
Introduction.
The chemical, glass and other
thermochemical manufacturing industries
can realize significant savings if the furnace
or process temperature at which their
product is produced is tightly controlled.
Within high temperature applications
the sensor of choice is the
thermocouple. These sensors are known to
drift significantly with age and can fail in
such a manner as to continue to provide a
reading but with a significant error. The
Self Verifying Sensor (SVS) and the
SVS Link Processor (SLP) system
overcome these problems and allow
customers to realize significant savings. Savings in fuel efficiency, low maintenance
cost (increased sensor life), improved
yields, lower emissions and extended plant
life have been realized by users of this
technology.
