AeroComm's One-Watt 900 MHz Transceivers Deliver Long Range At Low Cost

Lenexa, Kansas -- With the growing demand for increased range among local-area industrial communication applications, Laird Connectivity has launched the 900 MHz AC4490-1W product. The AC4490-1W provides one full watt of output allowing for data transmissions of up to 115.2 Kbps across 20 miles line-of-sight.

Priced at less than half the cost of similarly specified wireless products, AeroComm's one-watt transceiver modules and stand-alone units offer both wide range and reliable communications. And while typical low-cost radios provide only data transmission, the AC4490-1W contains a unique protocol (RF232) to manage over-the-air concerns, e.g. interference rejection, error detection, addressing, security, and link verification.

One-watt AC4490 transceivers can be used as direct cable replacements, requiring no special host software for communication. All frequency hopping, synchronization, and RF system data transmission/reception is performed by the transceiver. AC4490-1Ws interface via serial TTL level connection, providing transparent bi-directional wireless communication in point-to-point and point-to-multipoint, client/server or peer-to-peer (MeshRF) networks. Additional features include:

  • Smallest one-watt transceiver module: 1.65 x 1.9 inches (48 x 42 mm)
  • User-programmable output power of 5mW to 1000mW
  • Socket-compatible with 2.4 GHz units for network-wide interchangeability
  • Operable across the entire –40o C to +80o C industrial temperature range
  • Lowest cost one-watt transceiver module: Less than $45 in quantities of 10k.

"Manufacturers of cost-sensitive industrial applications want an affordable alternative to miles of invasive cable. Unfortunately, many RF options are too costly to integrate or unreliable in the field," said Mike Varady, founder and CEO of AeroComm. "AeroComm has boosted the output power of our 900MHz solutions to offer these OEMs truly robust long-range wireless -- at remarkably low prices."

Typical applications include utilities, electronic signs, fleet management, lighting control, and security. AC4490-1Ws are approved for use in portable applications in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and South America. To suit the global marketplace, the 900 MHz modules are fully compatible with a 2.4 GHz line, enabling OEMs to design once and subsequently interchange radios to accommodate new markets. AC4490-1Ws are available from AeroComm, Avnet, and distributors worldwide.
