Andrea DSDA
Andrea Electronics Corporation, a leader in the communication electronics and audio technology markets, combined with its wholly-owned subsidiary, Lamar Signal Processing, Ltd., now offers digital signal processing (DSP) through patented Digital Super Directional Array (DSDA) technology.
One of the barriers to achieving microphone accuracy and performance has been the lack of innovative techniques in microphone solutions suited to applications where the desired audio signal is at a distance from the input source. Conventional directional microphones have been unable to produce the desired focus and signal input for real-world audio applications. Standard microphones do not have the acoustic performance properties to effectively reduce the corruptive effects of signal interference from extraneous sources. With patented DSDA technology, Andrea Electronics and Lamar Signal Processing, Ltd., have broken through the barrier of microphone performance issues. DSDA is a revolutionary solution, which provides clear acoustic and audio input performance where the desired audio signal is at a distance from the microphone and which by applying digital signal processing achieves superior microphone performance previously unattainable through analog signal processing and mechanical acoustic designs.
Adaptive Beamforming
A key to exceptional performance is the DSDA microphone's ability to focus on and enhance desired acoustic signals, i.e. the sound source, and electronically eliminate ambient noise sources (inverted anti-noise signal).
Adaptive Beamforming is an elemental feature of Andrea's DSDA technology. It is the ability of the microphone to center its sensitivity in one focused direction while reducing noise from all other sources, while maintaining true frequency response and wide dynamic range with low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). The array constantly samples the acoustic environment, adaptively identifying interfering noises that are extraneous to the signal path. These ambient noise sources are then reduced, resulting in enhanced speech signal-to-noise intelligibility by up to 30dB.
The exceptional adaptability of the digital algorithm capabilities in DSDA technology can benefit various audio markets serving the needs of emerging acoustic and audio-related applications. As a leader in digital audio technology, Andrea Electronics with Lamar Signal Processing, Ltd., have focused on developing technologies which address emerging voice-driven applications as well as working with other industry leaders to customize DSDA for their specific applications.
