BlueCat Linux
BlueCat Linux is a distribution of open source Linux, enhanced to meet the requirements of embedded developers:
Standard Open Source Linux
Targeted and tailored for embedded development and deployment, BlueCat Linux has been engineered to allow configuration to accurately match the requirements of embedded development from small devices to large-scale multi-CPU systems. BlueCat includes a royalty-free, open source Linux distribution, enhanced with LynuxWorks' cross-development and embedding tools that improve quality and reduce time for embedded development.
Version Stabilized Linux
BlueCat Linux is version stabilized to harness the rapid innovation of open source products in a way that matches the lifecycle requirements of embedded products. LynuxWorks engineering reviews and tests new Linux innovations and versions to ensure that all technology enhancements in BlueCat are stable, tested and supported in a timely way.
Choice of Development and Deployment Support Programs
LynuxWorks offers customizable BlueCat support and professional services. Development support and consulting are designed to keep your development cycle on track. Long term deployment support will maximize the value of your deployed product to your customers, assuring a stable development and deployment base for up to 15 years. LynuxWorks support services multiply the productivity of your development team.
A Trusted and Experienced Provider
Bringing world-class consulting, support and training services from over a decade as a leading provider of embedded operating systems, LynuxWorks is the premier embedded Linux provider. A veteran in the embedded systems market, LynuxWorks brings proven, Linux-compatible, hard real-time technology in LynxOS. In addition, LynuxWorks offers a complete Linux environment for the cost-effective development of embedded applications in BlueCat Linux. The LynuxWorks compatible product family allows developers to easily make design trade-offs between open source Linux and hard real-time LynxOS. The result is a lower risk and a faster time to market. The compatible systems can be combined in multi-CPU systems to gain the advantage of both.
BlueCat Linux contains a large selected subset of the standard Linux distribution, designed for embedded development and deployment. BlueCat includes components that run on the development system (the host), and on the embedded system (target).
BlueCat on the Host System
On the host side, BlueCat includes a complete suite of GNU/EGCS cross development tools (CDT) compilers (C, C++), debuggers, profilers, libraries and the BlueCat embedding tools that build software images for the embedded system. A kernel debugger supports development of custom drivers on the target system. Utilities are included to make a bootable image on disk or ROM. There is development support for Java and TCL. In addition, a set of key Linux utilities and components are included, designed to assure a stable development environment for the entire lifecycle of an embedded project from initial development, through deployment, and end of life.
BlueCat on the Target System
BlueCat for the embedded target is configured by the developer from a large selection of Linux components.
Demonstration Systems
In addition to standard Linux, the BlueCat distribution contains demonstration systems that include both specially configured kernels and sample applications, which are downloadable and bootable on the target. The demonstration systems illustrate configuration options and choices, and give the embedded developer a head start on precision tailoring of BlueCat to their embedded environment.
