IOP 480 I/O Processor

The IOP 480 is the industry's first I/O Processor incorporating a PowerPC core, PLX's industry-leading PCI and I2O Data Pipe Architecture technology, a flexible memory controller, and integrated CPU support peripherals. The combination of a high performance RISC CPU, flexible local bus, PCI system bus, and hardware message passing support constitutes a new class of embedded processor known as the I/O Processor, or IOP. The IOP 480 is a perfect match for a wide variety of high-performance PCI and CompactPCI embedded host and I/O adapter applications including data communications, telecommunications, storage, industrial, and consumer devices. The IOP 480 is in full production.
