Patriot Scientific Corporationndustry's first OSGi-compatible home gateway server micro-platform has been introduced, a small-outline board designed as a plug-in for developing home gateways, hand-held Internet devices, set-top boxes, and other consumer electronics devices.

The Ignite Micro-Platform includes a 32-bit microprocessor that is based on PTSC's proprietary ROSC architecture and executes Java as its native language. Actually a dual-processor, the core device incorporates both an instruction processing unit and an I/O processor, plus a DMA controller, interrupt controller and a versatile memory interface unit. The ROSC (Removed Operand Set Computer) architecture allows the use of 8-bit instructions and requires half the support memory of an equivalent RISC design.

The micro-platform comes pre-loaded with WindRiver's VxWorks real-time operating system and support package, Sun's PersonalJava suite and its tools, and PTSC's own vxPresso which integrates their operation. Licenses for the software are also included to further reduce time-to-market for the integrator.
