Lisle, IL, USA – March 17, 2003 – Molex Incorporated (NASDAQ: MOLX and MOLXA), a global electronics components company, in partnership with KiloLambda Technologies, Ltd. today announced the availability of an innovative new product to protect optically amplified systems and networks. The optical fuse is a component that can be placed in any fiber optic system that is optically amplified to protect expensive equipment and the fiber cable itself from damaging power spikes and surges. Its passive operation causes an immediate drop in signal level when the transmitted optical power exceeds the fuse's pre-set power rating.

The compact optical fuse can be provided in a patch cord style package for installation between pieces of equipment or as a bare fiber assembly for simple fusion splice integration into optical circuit packs.

"With this technology, technicians, designers and users of optical amplifiers now have a valuable tool to protect against the inevitable spikes and excessive power levels that can damage sensitive receivers, test equipment and installed fiber," explains Mark Margolin, Molex's Global Chief Technology Officer for Fiber Optics.

"KiloLambda is very pleased to be working with Molex Fiber Optics to bring our optical fuse technology to the market place. This partnership, with KiloLambda providing leading edge technology in optical components combined with Molex's global manufacturing, marketing and sales capabilities, is a perfect fit, " states Tzachi Ben-Gal, Vice President of Marketing, KiloLambda Technologies.

Molex and KiloLambda will be promoting this new product at the upcoming Optical Fiber Conference (OFC) in Atlanta, Georgia in meeting room 15 March 25 - 27. Product samples are available now for evaluation, with volume production planned for the third quarter of this year.
