Drawing on the ubiquity of Ethernet and web technologies, NetSilicon, Inc., the leading provider of integrated hardware and software for intelligent, networked devices, and Germany's JUMPtec, a developer of miniaturized computer boards for embedded systems, have combined to bring diskless operation to embedded PCs.

By combining NetSilicon's tightly coupled Ethernet microprocessing solution with JUMPtec's miniaturized embedded PC boards, JUMPtec enables embedded PC functionality without need of local hard disks by utilizing available memory resources from a company's Local Area Network (LAN). JUMPtec's WEBasDISK system is ideal for industrial applications where stand-alone operation is required. By connecting to an Ethernet LAN via an integrated drive electronics interface, WEBasDISK derives memory from the network while carrying out data requests via transparent TCP/IP packet transmissions. Flash memory of up to 32 megabytes is available where access to network assets is unavailable.
