NetSilicon Officially Launches New NET+50 Networked Processor
"We made a pledge to our customers that our latest hardware offering would deliver increased performance at lower cost, and we're here to tell the world we're true to our word," said Cornelius "Pete" Peterson, chairman and CEO, NetSilicon. "NetSilicon has and will continue to aggressively upgrade its network-enabling products to meet customer and market demands. We have received numerous orders from customers for the NET+50 already, and we believe it will be enthusiastically accepted by intelligent device manufacturers in the upcoming months."
The NET+50 is part of the NetSilicon family of NET+ARM(R) hardware products - ARM(R)-based, 32-bit system-on-chip processors which make up the hardware portion of NetSilicon's integrated device networking platform. The NET+50 offers the best price performance of NET+ARM offerings. NET+ARM is the foundation for NetSilicon's comprehensive integrated solution, the NET+Works(TM) product line of tightly coupled processing hardware and networking software for intelligent, networked devices.
The NET+50 key system features and enhancements include:
- 8KB on-chip cache;
- up to 44Mhz clock speed;
- external DMA bus master;
- shared memory interface;
- 10 Base T, 100 Base T Ethernet support;
- 10 Channel DMA Controller;
- dual serial ports, asynchronous and synchronous HDLC;
- memory support, including SDRAM, Flash, EDO RAM and SRAM;
- watchdog and dual programmable timers;
- increased General Purpose I/O of up to 40 programmable I/O pins, up to 32 general purpose input pins, and 20 pins with programmable interrupt; and
- RTOS support for NetSilicon upgrades of the NET+OS(TM) and NET+Lx(TM) value-added, integrated platforms.
NetSilicon's NET+Works product family is a fully integrated, tested and production-ready embedded platform comprised of complete hardware, software, real-time operating system (RTOS), network protocols and servers, application programming interfaces (APIs), drivers and utilities - fully supported and royalty-free. By elevating the traditional hardware-only system-on-silicon approach to a tightly coupled "solution-on-chip," NetSilicon is able to give OEMs an out-of-box solution that allows design engineers to reduce development costs, increase focus on product design and meet time-to-market demands. The NET+Works product line includes NET+OS(TM), an integrated solution with real-time operating system, and an open source offering, NET+Lx(TM), running uClinux. NET+Works is used in a variety of applications such as Internet telephony, wireless base stations, building access and control, industrial automation, office appliances and handheld computing.
The NET+50 will be available June 2001 as customer samples. Pricing for the NET+50 is US $16.95 per chip for 10,000 unit quantities.
