Adastra Systems Corporation today announced the VNS-786, a new Single Board Computer (SBC) for embedded applications. Based on the Intel TX chipset, the VNS-786 is the newest member in the Adastra Systems' Venus family of Single Board Computers. It supports the Pentium, Pentium MMX and Tillamook processors from Intel and the K6-II and K6-III processors from AMD. For performance, CPU speeds of up to 400MHz are supported with the AMD K6-III processor. For low power, the Intel Tillamook CPU can reduce power consumption by 30% without a performance penalty over comparable MMX CPUs, allowing fan-less heatsinking. Expansion is available through a PC/104-Plus embedded bus. The 5.75" x 8" VNS-786 is designed to meet EBX form-factor and mounting specifications. Its connector layout is compatible with the Venus family, providing yet another level of Venus SBC performance.

The VNS-786 supports up to 128M bytes of 3.3V SDRAM memory and has a 512K synchronous burst level-2 cache. Major on-board peripherals include PCI SVGA, 10/100Mbit Ethernet, and audio subsystems. The on-board SVGA, based on the Chips & Technologies 69000 (69030 optional), comes with 2M video memory standard (4M optional). It features both 3V and 5V flat panel display support, full-motion video input, and simultaneous CRT/flat panel operation. The on-board audio is SoundBlaster Pro and Windows Sound System compatible and includes bridge mode power amplifier. Disk interfaces include two Ultra DMA EIDE and one floppy disk. Also on-board are four deep-FIFO serial ports (with RS-232 and RS-485 support), two enhanced parallel ports, PS/2 keyboard, PS/2 mouse, and two USB ports (with overcurrent protection). A 32-pin JEDEC socket supports DiskOnChip and other solid state disk solutions. Other embedded features include no-battery operation and a watchdog timer. The VNS-786 supports 5V only operation and control of ATX power supplies.

"The VNS-786 is the most versatile a single board computer on the market today." Said Marc Brown, president of Adastra Systems. "From a high performance AMD K6-III processor to power-efficient Intel Tillamook, the VNS-786 can do it all."

The VNS-786 with 233MHz Pentium MMX CPU is available for $550.00, quantity 100. For information, contact Jim O'Brien at 510.732.6900 (voice), 510.732.7655 (fax), or sales@adastra.com (email).
