WinSystems' PCM-UIO96A, is a PC/104 Bus, TTL-compatible, 96-point digital I/O interface with interruptible event sense. The most important feature of this card is that it monitors both rising and falling digital edge transitions, latches them, and then signals the host processor that a change of input status has occurred. This is the most efficient way of sensing and signaling the CPU of real-time events without the burden of continuous polling of the 96 digital I/O points.

The PCM-UIO96 is based upon two WinSystems' WS16C48 Universal I/O controller ASICs that supports the various input/output and interrupt configurations. Each I/O line is programmable for input, output, or output with read-back operation. A key feature supported on 48 of the lines is called "Event Sense". This is the controller's ability to monitor each input line and then generate an interrupt whenever an event occurs. Transition polarity is programmable and enabled on a bit-by-bit basis. Each line's transition is latched so that even short duration pulses will be recognized.

Each output channel is latched and is capable of sinking 12mA of current. This feature allows direct control of up to 96 industry standard opto-isolated signal conditioning modules from Opto-22, Gordos, etc. by a single PCM-UIO96A card.

The PCM-UIO96A is ideal for harsh industrial environments because it combines a low power consumption of 120 milliwatts (no loads) and a wide operational temperature range from -40° to +85° Celsius.
