A compact, fully compatible DOS for embedded and mobile computing environments.

Datalight ROM-DOS is the most robust and full-featured DOS on the market today. Its high level of compatibility, low cost, and unusually small memory footprint combine to make this operating system not only the best x86 DOS currently available, but particularly well-suited for embedded applications. ROM-DOS can be found in products from numerous industries worldwide and has been the operating system of choice for everything from single board computers to voicemail systems.

The only requirements for ROM-DOS are RAM, ROM and an 80x86 CPU (including the NEC V-series). ROM-DOS can be booted from ROM or hard/floppy disk drives. The latest version includes Super-Boot, a feature that allows ROM-DOS to be booted as a second operating system independently of the primary operating system. This process, known as "double-booting", provides an environment in which diagnostics tools can be placed and later activated by an end user or support technician.

In order to assure that DOS is a viable development platform well into the 21st century, Datalight engineers have created the Datalight Software Development Toolkit (SDTK). The SDTK includes all third party and Datalight specific tools needed for the development of ROM-DOS and the entire suite of Datalight products.
