SBC-6860-W Single Board Computer

Phoenix, AZ, August 13, 2001 – ACTIS Computer (www.actis-computer.com) has released a high-integration Single Board Computer based on Motorola's MPC860T PowerQUICC Communication Processor. The SBC-6860-W features a unique combination of wired and wireless networking, communication, and I/O expandability on a compact 233 x 160mm stand-alone board.

The board features an 802.11 wireless LAN port at up to 11 Mbit/s, two RS-232 ports and a Fast Ethernet port with on-board dual speed 10/100 Base-T transceivers to provide connectivity to the Internet or corporate Intranets. For connection to WANs, the SBC-6860 also includes an S-interface ISDN port, which can be used as a 128K+16K Basic Rate Interface (BRI) port. An IrDA infrared port provides wireless communication between the board and operators with portable computers or PDA's for simplified on-site operation and diagnostic. A multi-protocol serial port provides support for RS-232, RS-485, RS-449, EIA﷓530, EIA-530A, V.35 and V.36 interface levels (software programmable). A dedicated RISC Communication Engine located on the PowerQUICC silicon chip relieved the main PowerPC CPU core of all communication and networking processing.

The SBC-6860 is expandable using two IP modules slots (VITA-4 standard) allowing the user to customize the board with a nearly infinite combination of analog or digital I/O, and serial communication modules available form ACTIS Computer and other 3rd party vendors. The board features 16 or 32 Mbytes of synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) expandable to 64 or 128 Mbytes, 8 or 16 Mbytes of on-board FLASH and battery backed clock calendar with 32 Kbytes of SRAM.

Software development for the SBC-6860-W can be easily done through the board's BDM port using cross development tools. In addition, a Board Support Package is available for the LINUX operating system. The board is shipped with a small resident monitor which include a debugger and a loader utility. With this program, users can load their own software and program the Flash through the serial port.

The PowerQUICC's communication features combined with the wireless network connectivity and Industry Pack I/O expandability make the SBC-6860-W ideally suited for use in traditional process monitoring, remote data acquisition, remote control, medical equipments, and transportation applications.
