SpiderSS7 is a portable implementation of Signaling System No. 7, or SS7
Spider Software Inc.rSS7 is a portable implementation of Signaling System No. 7, or SS7, featuring the functionality required for Signaling Transfer Point (STP), Service Control Point (SCP) and Service Switching Point (SSP) capabilities, public to private network gateways, Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) capabilities and Internet Call Routing (ICR) gateways.

The system is a STREAMS-based implementation of SS7 and can run on a communications board or in a host environment. The stack can also be split between the layers so that, for example, MTP3 can run on a host, with multiple instances of MTP2, that is, with one MTP2 running on each board.

The system is available as a source code implementation pre-ported to VxWorks and UNIX/Solaris, complete with hardware drivers, programming documentation and end user documentation. However, like all of Spider Software's technologies, it can be ported to any Real Time Operating System (RTOS), and most implementations of UNIX.

The system can be licensed as SS7 Software Developer Kit (SDK). This is a binary implementation of MTP1, MTP2 and MTP3, with the source code of an example hardware driver and end user documentation.

SpiderSS7 integrates the following key features:

  • MTP1 based on PowerQUICC platform and 'standard' SS7 microcode
  • MTP 2 conformant with ITU Q.703, Bellcore GR-246 T1.111.3 and ANSI T1.111.3
  • MTP 3 conformant with ITU Q.704, Bellcore GR-246 T1.111.4 and ANSI T1.111.4
  • STREAMS-based, pre-ported solution for VxWorks and UNIX
  • Protocol variants and National Options implemented as compile-time variants
  • Layer Management — statistics, status and tracing information available from each protocol layer via management interface
  • All protocol options configurable at run-time via management interface to each layer for greater flexibility, including: Protocol variants, Timers, National Options
