Force Computers, a Solectron Companyre CPCI-680 CompactPCI, single board embedded computer features the firm's SENTINEL universal PCI-to-PCI bridge chip. The SENTINEL bridge allows the product to automatically switch the operating modes between a system slot function and a peripheral slot function without any software or hardware changes and makes the board a "true" universal mode single board computer solution. The SBC is a fully utilized, modular and flexible PowerPC, G4-based single board computer on a single-slot 6U card with low power consumption. It supports the latest PowerPC G4 family and up to one GByte of high-speed memory within a single slot. Target applications include control and data processing functions in base-station controllers and transceiver stations in wireless local loops; ATM or IP Layer 3 data communication switches; speech processing/recognition systems, image and video processing systems or any other real time applications that require scalable multi-computing capability.

The board uses the PowerPC G4 processor running operating systems such as VxWorks, pSOS, LynxOS and Linux. Clock speeds start at 400 MHz. Additional performance gains come via the company's stackable memory module technology, which allows the two MByte of L2 cache—on board memory to scale from 128 MByte Synchronous DRAM—up to one GByte in a single slot. The SBC also offers 16 MByte Flash and an optional IDE flash disk socket. Each board has two PMC slots, two independent Fast Ethernet interfaces and two serial interfaces. Other card variants offer on-board fast-wide SCSI-2 interface and four additional serial interfaces for extended communication and mass storage needs.
Large buffers integrated in the PCI bridge allow data transfers across the CompactPCI bus without disturbing interruptions that can slow down the system performance. This feature can help the system to perform faster with the widely deployed 32-bit bus.
