Andrea's newly developed USB-PCA (Universal Serial Bus Personal Computer Audio) full duplex digital audio interface technology, introduced in November 1998, can be integrated into or used with microphones, headsets and speakers to transform them into USB-compliant peripherals, which when combined with the power of USB-ready PCs, elevate the next generation of computer audio applications to a new level of sound quality, versatility and ease of use.
This technology provides a standardized, convenient means by which audio peripheral users can achieve high quality, digital audio while providing the convenience of "plug-and-play," and can be integrated into new products to leverage USB compatibility, or can be incorporated with existing legacy peripherals to transform them into USB-compatible peripherals running on Windows® 98.
Andrea Electronics' USB full duplex audio technology addresses the challenges presented by variations in audio quality among traditional sound cards while also creating a standard for connectivity which does not exist for sound cards, i.e. a standard microphone input interface. Immediate advantages of this system include digitized, low noise floor, wider dynamic range with a full bandwidth, CD-quality audio stream. The technology can be integrated into new products to leverage USB benefits, or can be incorporated with existing legacy peripherals to be used with a USB-enabled PC. Andrea Electronics' USB-PCA technology provides a convenient means by which audio peripheral users can achieve better, simpler plug-and-play port capacity, addressing applications such as speech recognition, Internet telephony, videoconferencing and computer telephony integration, among other things. In addition, Andrea Electronics' Digital Super Directional Array (DSDA) and PureAudio audio-enhancing software represent examples of digital audio class driver technologies that benefit user applications once a multi-channel USB audio interface is implemented.
IBM Corporation will include Andrea Electronics' new NC-7100 Universal Serial Bus (USB) headset with its ViaVoice for Macintosh, Enhanced Edition speech recognition software product.
